Spean Bridge Mill - Weaving Exhibition

Activity

Description

The looms at Spean Bridge Mill are up and running again and are back to full production. Come visit our resident weaver Mary- Carol Souness on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with her remaining time in spent in her Fort William studio. Other exhibition days are available by prior request.

Mary-Carol has recently moved to her husband's home town of Fort William and has joined the team of friendly staff at Spean Bridge Mill. Mary-Carol is qualified with a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts, with weaving as her main pathway. She is following in her grandmother's and great grandmother's footsteps as they were both weavers in their day. Before moving to Fort William, Mary-Carol often helped her husband with his job as a shepherd—so she has a sound understanding and hands on knowledge of the full production process from the Hill to the Shop.  For our first project we have undertaken to make a series of new tweed’s which will be on sale only at Spean Bridge Mill.

Mary- Carol looks forward to meeting you in our weaving exhibition and answering your questions as you watch a traditional art perform before you. Please remember this is a working loom in production and requires concentration and counting as well as the odd repair work.  You can meet Mary-Carol on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the Mill. However from time to time we may alter these days to fit around our production timescales.

So that you won't be disappointed, we recommend contacting us on 01397 712260, to confirm that Mary-Carol will be working within the Exhibition on the day you plan to visit us.
